There are many questions people have before buying an automower but the one we get asked the most is where do the grass clippings go?
All robotic lawnmowers, including Husqvarna’s Automowers, are mulching mowers. This means that instead of collecting the grass clippings in a box like a traditional mower, the grass is cut into fine clippings. The automower then scatters these fine grass clippings onto the lawn allowing them to decompose and for the nutrients to return into the soil.
When you cut the lawn with a traditional lawnmower the lawn is usually cut once it has got too long. This means that a couple of centimetres of grass are removed and go into some form of a collector on the lawnmower. You then have to dispose of these grass clippings either in a compost heap, garden waste bin or at your local recycling centre.
In contrast, an automower constantly cuts the grass as it grows using razor-sharp blades to keep the grass short. As only a few millimetres of grass are cut at a time, the grass clippings are so fine and small that they do not need to be collected.
The grass clippings fall to the lawn as the automower moves around your lawn. These fine grass clippings work as a natural fertiliser for your lawn. Because of this, many of our customers report that their lawns grow better and stronger, making it difficult for intrusive plants such as weeds and wild grasses to grow on their lawn. The lawn also becomes lush and fuller, taking on a healthier colour.
